On Sunday, May 14th, 2023 – we are organising a nature walk + plastic cleanup activity in a forested park in Lado Sarai – which is filled with a wildlife (Jackals, Porcupines, Neelgai, Peacocks, various birds etc) – as well as historical monuments ( a gigantic wall of a fort that was built between 7th century and 12th century ) as well as a rock climbing site.

The area in question is over 110 acres — and so, larger than Buddha Jayanti Park (85 acres) and larger than Nehru Park (95 acres) and also larger than several other notable parks of Delhi

We will gather around 7:45 AM – and try to start between 7:45 and 8:00 AM — and end the walk by 9:30 or latest 10:00 AM.

Meeting place is Indian Garden Park, MB Road – gates at MB Road and Gate near Saket Metro Station Parking Lot (on Westend Marg)

Interested folks can send a message “lado sarai nature walk” to 98111-09407 (mobile number of Nalin Savara) – and I will send them the details including the start time; where we will meet and things to bring etc—

and if you have any questions— feel welcome to also phone on 98111-09407 and ask me or drop a message to ask.

The walk is free – and we request you all to bring your own (non disposable) water-bottle — and maybe a sturdy walking stick (incase there are monkeys to scare them)

The main purpose of the walk will be nature awareness and to introduce people to the forest – rather than any specifically focussed cleanup activity- but we will also carry some sacks with us – so that if we see some plastic waste etc – we can collect it, even though as mentioned cleanup is not the main purpose.

Burj on a 60 feet high rock – one of the places we will see in the walk.
Butterfly in bushes with leaves of a siras tree in background- we expect to see lots of greenery, wilderness, butterflies and nature!
Male Peacock – with it’s feathers crosses the path – expect to see peacocks too!
A Moth – who’s patterns resemble a butterfly – on the ground – we expect to see these too – and the ground with lose sandy soil is how the ground in a dry tropical thorn scrub bush forest often looks like !
Nilgai – expect to see Asia’s largest antelope too, if you’re lucky, since Nilgai are often very shy.

Qila Rai Pithora – These walls stretch for many kilometers and are 30-40 feet high in some places – built between the 7th century and 12th century AD by Kings ranging from the Anangpal Tomar to Prithviraj Chauhan – these walls are testimony to one of the oldest of the 7 cities of Delhi.

And since we’ve said, the wilderness is 110+ acres – here’s proof! A board – telling it’s area as 56+55 = 111 acres!
